I found its better to use your own repository for updating.

what you can do is create a repo just for your addon and then insert the following code above the line that mentions the autostart.py module in your addon.xml

Code:
  <extension point="xbmc.addon.repository" name="Your Addon Repo">
<info compressed="false">https://yoursite.com/path/to/addons.xml</info>
<checksum>https://yoursite.com/path/to/addons.md5.xml</checksum>
<datadir zip="true">https://yoursite.com/path/to/zips/</datadir>
</extension>

On my own build, I simply just change the version number of the wizard in my text file, push it to my host & it pops up on boot with the update notification.

No repo or changing of extensions needed.

Surf (the dev) works extremely long hours and has a family so any free time to spend on Kodi (whether support or coding) is very limited. As he works very long shifts you might find you get some weeks where he's just not available and then other weeks where he's very active - all depends on his work rota and of course there is a huge time difference between us in the UK and where he lives.

I think suggesting support to be woeful is very harsh, remember ALL of this is done in people's free time voluntarily. If you're offering to help with support then I'm sure he'd appreciate it.
IMPORTANT:
NO LOG == NO PROBLEM

I do the same as Christopher Jackson. I have my build and my wizard hosted on dropbox.

Dropbox is a super fast server so the installs for updates are quick. All you need to do is change the 0 at the end of the sharable link to a 1. Then it becomes a DIRECT link Wink

Both the build and wizard pop up immediately when there is a change.
